Universal Music Files Copyright Lawsuit Over Mixtapes Sent to Prisoners.

Packages with “mixtapes” to prisoners featuring Eminem songs is “contraband personified,” says a new lawsuit filed by Universal Music against a group of companies alleged to be selling “care packages” that family members and friends can send to inmates who are incarcerated in correctional facilities.  For allegedly reproducing, distributing and preparing derivative works based on their compositions, Universal Music is demanding maximum statutory copyright damages in the amount of $150,000 for each copyrighted work allegedly constituting infringement.
